NDIS Assist Daily Task Melbourne

Supported Independent Living and Daily Task/Shared Living NDIS support in Melbourne

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS program that helps individuals with disabilities above the age of 18 live independently with 24/7 support from caregivers. Additional daily tasks/shared living NDIS plan helps participants get trained care providers for all daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning, meal preparation and personal grooming.

Welcare Support Services is an NDIS-approved support services provider in Tarneit and other Melbourne suburbs that offers reliable services for independent living and shared accommodation. Our team is highly experienced and adept at providing support to individuals who require such assistance.

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is a specialised service that helps eligible NDIS participants live independently in a shared living space. Trained caregivers provide round-the-clock support to participants with their daily tasks. This service is provided to participants who require extended or constant support to get through the day. Accordingly, the NDIS funding is used to pay for the cost of the care providers or any other additional expenses related to the facilities.

To be eligible for this type of funding, you need to make it a part of your core support funding. This is approved by the NDIS based on the reasonable and necessary support that you require as part of your NDIS-approved goals. This needs approval by a recognised or allied health professional and is based on the FAR or Functional Assessment Report.

What is Daily Task/Shared Living for NDIS?

As part of your NDIS plan for Supported Independent Living (SIL), you can live in a shared home with 5-7 NDIS participants who have similar disabilities or are in similar life stages. Every participant makes individual contributions from their NDIS plans toward the services that are provided by professional and trained caregivers. Daily tasks/shared living in NDIS will help you get support and supervision from caregivers for specific tasks including:

  • Personal care (shower, toilet, sanitary assistance, dressing and eating)
  • Medication assistance
  • Meal preparation
  • Grocery shopping
  • Laundry and ironing
  • Travel assistance
  • Community participation
  • Therapy and training
  • Budget management
  • Social interaction
  • Communication assistance

  • Search for the right peer group with similar ages and interests
  • Find a disability-friendly property that matches your requirements

There are varying degrees of Supported Independent Living (SIL) services that we provide to participants based on their requirements and NDIS-approved funding. These are:

  • Basic support: This is the basic level of support service that we provide to NDIS participants. You get help with SIL and overall supervision that helps you live independently. The care providers will be available for emergency assistance too. However, there is no round-the-clock daily task/shared living NDIS support available at this level.
  • Standard support: A higher level of support compared to the previous package. You get extended support for all your tasks, available 24/7. Along with daytime support for your daily tasks, care providers will also sleep over.
  • High support: You get extended support from highly trained and experienced care providers and nursing staff. We provide you with round-the-clock assistance, help with all your daily tasks and sleep in the same accommodations. This is useful if you require a high level of support, specialised care, or specific medical needs.

  • Increased self-reliance
  • Aids with transition phase of independent living
  • Enhances decision-making skills
  • Decreases dependency on others
  • Ability to plan daily schedule
  • Acquiring relationship-building skills
  • Chance to connect with people with similar interests
  • Decreased cost of living in shared accommodations

Who is eligible for SIL?

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, has its own specialised funding within the NDIS plan and is not offered universally to all participants. You must meet the eligibility criteria to include it as part of your core NDIS funding. The criteria for your inclusion in the program depend on:

  • Your age
  • Goals
  • Support requirements
  • Identification of necessary/maximum value support

You can apply for Supported Independent Living and make it a part of your core NDIS funding based on RoC or Roster of Care. This is prepared after discussion and evaluation of your needs. The RoC and quote by a designated NDIS provider form the basis of your application. Upon successful evaluation and acceptance, the applicable funds for SIL are released and made part of your core funding.

If you need assistance in applying or have queries about the process, our expert NDIS plan managers can help you with the same. We will extend every support available to the applicant. Please note that we only provide guidance for the application process and do not influence the outcome in any way.

Limitations of Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) comes with its limitations. True to its name, it only funds services that support your independence. For starters, it does not cover the rent of the property you stay in, nor the purchase or mortgage costs. You will also have to pay for your utility, internet, gas and phone bills yourself and cannot use your NDIS funding for the same.

Additionally, these funds cannot be used to purchase toiletries, kitchen and garden products, repairs, maintenance or upkeep of the house. In short, anything that is not essential or directly related to supporting you is not included in your funding. You will have to keep this in mind when planning your NDIS independent living support service.

Your SIL funding does not include anything that is not directly related to your need for support services. This includes the cost of food and groceries, utility bills such as gas, water, phone, internet, rent and lodging, house maintenance, toiletries, kitchen and garden utensils, etc.
SDA stands for Specialist Disability Accommodation. These are specially designed accommodations for people with disabilities. SIL is Supported by Independent Living, a service that allows a person with a disability to live independently, alone or with individuals with similar disabilities. With SIL, you can get the services of a NDIS service provider for personal care, help with your daily tasks, transport assistance, etc.
NDIS allows irregular SIL support to help deal with unexpected emergencies. This may be because of hospitalisation which leads to daily plan cancellations. During these periods, the participant requires additional support and specialised care.
